A mid century Murano glass lamp
A mid century Murano glass lamp
A mid century Murano glass table lamp, attributed to Barovier & Toso, the ribbed undulating body formed of sections of opaline and clear glass with gold leaf inclusions, on a turned gilt base.
The histories of the Barovier and Toso families stretches back to the late 13th century in Murano, the heart of glass making in the Venetian lagoon. In 1936 the two glass works merged and set up headquarters in the Palazzo Contarini in Murano. One of the most notable figures in the company's history is Ercole Barovier, who became the artistic director in 1919 and produced many iconic designs, including the Primavera and Cordonato d'Oro series. The company continues to produce exquisite glass pieces, combining traditional techniques with modern design.
