A Regency period gilt bronze and cut glass dish light
A Regency period gilt bronze and cut glass dish light
1491
A fine Regency period ormolu and cut glass dish light, the dish cut with concentric bands of lozenges in an ormolu frame decorated with a band of Greek key pattern punctuated by lion's heads and with running foliage above, supported by three eagle-headed scrolling serpents around a central glass urn and ball finial, suspended from three gilt metal and glass chains and a stiff leaf and flower head corona, with a glass orb and ceiling rose.
The brilliantly cut faceted dish, suspended above a dining table or in a hall, once refracted candlelight across a room, equally rich in decoration. Now such an ornate fixture offers a fascinating contrast in a minimalist interior, the refracted light flickering across smooth concrete, linen and lacquer.
