A pair of glass lamps by Orrefors
A pair of colourless glass table lamps by Orrefors, designed by Carl Fagerlund, inscribed ORREFORS on the silvered tops.
Founded in 1898 on the site of an ironworks, the Orrefors glassworks began producing window glass before moving to the manufacture of household items. Artists and experimentation quickly followed and major successes were achieved at the Gothenburg Exhibition in 1923 and the Paris Exhibition in 1925.
Carl Fagerlund (1915-2011) was a Modernist lighting and glass designer. He worked for Orrefors as a leading designer between 1946-1980. Notable commissions include lighting installations for the head office of General Motors in Detroit and for the Kennedy Centre in Washington.
