A set of Louis XV carved giltwood fauteuils
A set of four Louis XV carved giltwood fauteuils by Françoise Reuze, one stamped FRC REUZE, each with cartouche-shaped back, the channelled and carved frame with raised cabochon to cresting and rail, the cabriole legs similarly treated, terminating in scroll feet, upholstered in a tobacco-coloured floral silk.
Re-gilt.
Françoise Laurent Reuze (1716-1799) was awarded maître in 1743. The son of the maître-menuisier, Pierre, Françoise produced seat furniture in the mature Louis XV style characterised by its ample and generous proportions and a fluidity of line. He enjoyed the patronage of Queen Marie-Antoinette and the Swedish Court and flourished in the rue de Cléry for over 50 years.
