A set of four late 17th century William & Mary high back side chairs, japanned with gilt chinoiserie decoration on a black lacquer background, the backs surmounted by pierced scrollwork decoration and flanked by turned columnar supports, with caned seats and backs, the front legs of C-curved form joined by an arched and pierced scrollwork stretcher, resting on gilt bun feet.

Old worm damage, scuffs and wear synonymous with age, seat rails repaired or replaced in order to take re-caned seats and backs. The japanned decoration refreshed in places.
