Two Quinces
Emma Tennant
watercolour and ink on paper
monogrammed 'ET' lower left and dated 2004
Lady Emma Tennant, daughter of the 11th Duke of Devonshire and Debo, Duchess of Devonshire, uses two types of paper in her painting, an off-white Nepalese and a naturally uneven Japanese. The fibrous nature of these allows the paper to absorb the watercolour, creating a great depth and a wrinkle in the surface texture. Old, veneered picture frames are sourced for her to finish each work.
